The geographic diversity of the area has spawned a wonderful eclectic mix of golfing experiences, from the heathland Edzell in the north to the links of Montrose by the sea, the parkland beauty of Downfield and the hybrid nature of Monifieth.
If you are planning a golfing holiday, then Dundee is the ideal destination with over 50 golf course within a 30-mile radius. Nearer to the city, the parkland venues of Downfield, Camperdown, Caird Park and Ballumbie all offer great value for money golf with Downfield once again an Open Qualifier for the Open in 2007. Dundee is also the ideal destination for spectators attending The Open with the event held every five years at St Andrews (2010) and the 2007 Championship to be hosted by Carnoustie.
A series of golfing packages are available in the area, from the Carnoustie Country Classic golf tournament which regularly attracts over 150 competitors from all over the world to the Carnoustie Country Golf Pass which provides value for money golf at a variety of courses. The Dream Ticket provides an opportunity to play over the Championship Carnoustie course as well as Monifieth, Montrose and Panmure, all Open Qualifiers.
With such a wide range of golfing attractions the area is the ideal destination to pick up a club for the first time, play as a family or for the more competent, to test themselves against some of the toughest challenges. Many accommodation providers are aware of golfers needs and are happy to provide club storage, early breakfasts and even sympathy when you want to relate those ‘if only’ stories about the putt that got away…
